We held our first members’ meeting of the new year in the Kingston Suite at the MKM Stadium rather than the usual venue of the Dugout where there was a problem with the heating. One hundred and sixty-three members attended the meeting which was lovely to see.
Our Chair Allen, opened the meeting by announcing the sad news of the recent passing of Bill Shirley. Bill was well known to us all as he was once a valued committee member of the Senior Tigers Club. We held a minute’s silence and a round of applause in remembrance of him and for those members who we have recently lost.
Barbara announced that following our successful all-day social event at our March meeting last year, we are going to hold another one this year on Thursday 7th March. There will be morning coffee and lunch again. Following the morning activities and lunch we will hold our usual monthly meeting with a guest speaker. For those members wishing to come for lunch, the cost is £7.50 and for a guest £12.50. Of course, for those members who do not wish to come in the morning and for lunch then they are welcome to come for the afternoon meeting at the usual time. Further details will be issued in due course.
Our guest speaker this month was none other than our very own ‘Captain Marvel ‘ Ian Ashbee. Ian led the Tigers rise through all divisions culminating in the ultimate dream of playing in the Premiership and even playing in an F.A. Cup final at Wembley. Ian talked about his football career and life after football. He also spoke about his son who has followed in his footsteps into football. Hopefully one day we may see him play in the first team for our beloved Hull City.
Ian very kindly made the draw for the raffle which raised £308.00.
