Our outing in December was to the City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds, to see their annual Rock ‘n’ Roll pantomime, which this year was Jack & The Beanstalk. Rock ‘n’ Roll pantomimes at this theatre have become a tradition and are a very different format from the traditional ones. They are a mix of the traditional elements of audience participation and corny gags with music and songs of classic rock anthems and chart toppers all performed live on stage by an ultra-talented cast of actor-musicians.

On arriving in Leeds, we had time for a drink and a snack before the afternoon matinee performance started.

The auditorium was full for the performance, and besides our 50+ Senior Tigers, there were several school parties which added to the atmosphere. It was a brilliant afternoon full of song and laughter. We were all singing and clapping along to the songs. To top the fun afternoon off the cast at the end of the performance came down amongst the audience with water pistols and started firing water at everyone which had us all laughing and screaming, trying to avoid getting wet. At one point I had my coat over my head. What a hoot!

We left the theatre having thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon full of laughter hoping we could repeat it next December.

Following the pantomime, we went to a fish & chip restaurant in Morley where we sat down and enjoyed a fish & chip tea which made a lovely end to our day.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day out.
