Thursday 13th June dawned bright and sunny and more importantly no rain, when a party of Senior Tigers set off for a picnic at Richard Beachell’s farm situation in the Yorkshire Wolds. Richard and his wife kindly opened their garden to us for a picnic. What a lovely garden it is too. Set in half an acre, it is laid to lawn with flower beds, trees and a large pond. We each took our camping chair and picnic and then enjoyed an ice cream delivered to the farm in the afternoon.
On arrival, Richard told us all about his farm and its family history. Then to our surprise, he told us that they had six pet sheep and much to our amusement he told us that one is called Barbara. So of course we started calling Barbara, Baa Barbara. Later in the afternoon, Richard held a quiz on what he had talked about on our arrival. So, if you hadn’t been listening you wouldn’t have been able to win one of the prizes which Richard and his wife gave out.
Barbara had organised games which were enjoyed by some of us while others just sat and enjoyed the company of others. For those with a bit of energy, Richard took them on walk into his fields where he told them about what crops he had growing.
It was a very enjoyable day in lovely surroundings and the weather was very kind to us too. The sun came out for a while and the rain stayed away until the evening.
