On 20th October the outing was to Shibden Hall – the home of the famous Anne Lister.
We arrived at the bottom of the park and had coffee first in their lovely cafe. The rain was coming down so fast that we were glad we had transport through the park, up the hill to the Hall. This was a land train, and because of the gradient and the slippery surface of the path – it took three journeys to get all 51 of us up there. We were given a guided tour, and for those who had watched the series Gentleman Jack, it was lovely to see where some of the filming had taken place.
We then went on to the Bankfield Museum. This was a beautiful place – full of period costumes so delightfully displayed – including those worn by Suranne Jones in the series.
We then traveled on to the Piece Hall in Halifax. Dating back to the late 1700s this was built as a trading area for wool merchants to trade their ‘pieces of cloth’! It was an amazing place, but sadly again it was raining heavily! We were able to have lunch there under heated canopies, so our day was not spoilt.
